Sod Busters

I made a few buys on Ebay...landed a brand new Black Angus for under $5.00 w/ shippng, a NIB German Eye under $25 w/shipping....lost out on a Case because the seller didnt know what kind of steel it was??? I have sold a lot of knives and have always known, but OK.

Are all Case Soddies CV steel?

Thanks again

The blades are stamped on the tang beneath the model number CV or SS to allow people to tell the difference at a glance. It is often easier to ask a seller "how it is stamped" instead of "what it is made of" and get a useful reply. It is worth trying again for a Case CV, as they are perhaps the best value out there in terms of what you are getting for the price.

Last but not least at all are my brown mules by Klass. They are a bit rough and crude compared to the others, kind of like the red headed step child from the other side of the tracks, but is a soddie none the less.

At 7 to 10 dollars out of Smoky Mountain the Klass brown mules are a steal. I buy alot of these as loan outs. I think I've converted at least a half dozen to a full dozen young guys to traditional knives by loaning them a brown mule for a month. One guy I loaned one to, a young 20 something, it was stock. I had not done anything to it. I loaned him the knife and some 600 paper and a small container of linseed oil and told him to rub down the handle down at night and buff it off in the morning. Well he must have got into working on the knife because at the end of a month he gave me back a new one from Smoky and kept the old one that he had polished and groomed into a nice knife. He also had bought a large and small yellow Case CV and sold off his tacticals. The brown mules by Klass have a tiny bit thinner blade than some of the other soddies, and a sharp mule will slice through cardboard breaking down boxes like you've never felt.

Jackknife, I cannot find these on their site... do they still carry them? Other places where I can find them?
thanks, Mongo

Hey Mongo, I just saw your post and I checked their web site. Finding no listing, I called them and they told me they had stopped carrying them. Sorry.

If I see them around someplace I'll give you a shout.

Now I gotta go wash the egg off my face!

Mongo - do a dogpile search and you will find a number of online retailers who have the Kissing Crane brown mules. Knifecenter, ebladestore, etc. I think the plastic handled Kissing Cranes are stainless; the brown mules are carbon.

lambertiana,

You are correct, I believe.

Just got a new Brown Mule, with rosewood handles, it is carbon, and very nice too.

Very comfortable in the hand and weighs very little, so sits in the pocket ok as well.
