My favorite mail lady just stopped by the house and dropped off a box I'd been waiting for from the frozen environs of Bemidji, MN.

Earlier this week I saw a posting by Keith ("KR") Johnson for a sodbuster he had built and that he was offering in the "folders for sale" area here on the forums.

Having become somewhat of a devotee of the sodbuster (relatively speaking, it's dangerous to presume on this sub-forum) I couldn't resist its allure while alternately weighing the image and the very reasonable price for a hand made knife.

So, though the mail took a day longer than they should have, in the end all is right with the world as this sodbuster is a little gem.

Here are some stats:

Scales: Ivory Micarta
Steel: 1095 @ ~59-60 Rc
Weight: 1 7/8 oz.
Thickness: .39"
Closed: ~3.75"
Blade Length: 2.9" (tip to scales)
Spine: .072"

The Case Sodbuster Jr, in comparison features Delrin scales, Chrome Vanadium Steel. weighs 2 oz., is .54" across the scales, 3 5/8" long and .075" at the spine.

...And here are a few images of the knife itself and compared to a Case Sodbuster Jr.

What's obvious from the images is how true to the Case Sodbuster Keith was able to remain while creating a very light and supremely thin and pocketable knife.

Fit and finish are quite good. Backspring is strong, pivot oversized and blade well centered.

What's not obvious from the images is just how wickedly sharp this little razor is. Keith knows just a little something about sharp!

For those of you who may hanker after a custom version of the classic sodbuster without breaking the bank, it would be worth your while to contact Keith either by PM here on the site (KR Johnson) or via email at keith@greatriverforge.com

Very Nice Jr there, I am still waiting for #2 of KnifeHead (Kerry) knutbuster to get made, don't know where I am on his list, but I PM him every two months to let him know he is not off the hook on it, I may have to go ahead with Keith's also. Fine piece and a GREAT SCORE, Congrats.

Blues - You beat me to that one by just a few minutes so I was waiting for your review. Also I just emailed Keith to get on his list :D

Very nice but I do like my Soddies big...lol, full size for me. I do like the fact your's has obviously joined weight-watchers and thinned down some tho...

Preaching to the choir, Absintheur. I've been bending Keith's ear all week long.

I have a feeling we may see a big brother to this one down the road.

Thanks for the good words, guys.

Rob, now you went and done it. After seeing your post, I sent email to Keith also. Hope he reads mine first.:D:D

You guys will be happy to know that Keith's hard at work in the shop as I just finished speaking with him. So, maybe it won't be too long until he can make up a few new sodbusters.

I'm betting you're gonna like 'em.

Great post; thanks for the comparison pics. I too have always like the Sodbuster. Keith is building me one with black Buffalo scales for early April delivery.
Can't wait.

Whoa mama! What a great snag Elliott. I really like the looks of that one and the slim profile is sweet.

And dangit...if you and Jim, and Rob get one, well heck how could a fella resist? ;)

btw, I got a fine custom forged tomahawk from Keith a couple of months ago. He's a real nice folksy fella, and makes a mean hawk among other blades.

I'd expect no less from my RPBM bladebrothers.

Now, where's Mikey? ;)

Great Sodbuster!! That is my all-time favorite classic folder! Thanks for the pics!

That's a clean and well made looking knife. ENJOY!

...James, I saw that! :D

I saw you buy that one Elliott. Like Rob said, you're quick on the draw. It does look very well made.

And I have one coming in Lime Green G-10 Handles.:D:D:D:D:D:D
Eat your heart out Rob!!!;)

Actually, Durwood was there ahead of me but he opted to wait for the stainless version. So, I'm actually being given credit I don't deserve.

I procrastinated for a few minutes, PM'd Keith once or twice and in the end just did what I should've known I'd do all along. :p

Hmmm...I wonder what a sodbuster would look like with swedges :)
