"Sodbuster" by Keith ("KR") Johnson

Hi folks,
Starting a new project like this is both exciting and frustrating. Learning to make good slip joints is the hardest knifemaking project I've tackled. But it's satisfying when one goes together and works well.
I got my first sodbuster in 1973 and carried it for years. I put it away when the spring broke but when I wanted to make slip joints, it was an obvious choice for a pattern.
I'm also itching to make some trappers & I have an old Union Cutlery folding hunter I want to reproduce.
Here's a couple pictures of my first knife Dad gave me in 1953 that's never been sharpened, and the sodbuster I finished yesterday in black canvas micarta & 1095. It's sharp. :D
I sincerely appreciate you interest for my knives.

Mmmmmm....the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades forum seems to be turning into the Sodbuster Forum...not a bad thing in my opinion...

and that is a good looking Soddie btw...

Well, not quite only sodbusters, but heck, if you can't appreciate a good sodbuster, well... ;)

Keith, how lucky you are to still have that first knife. I'd give nearly anything to have the handful of pocketknives given me by my grandfather in the years before he passed in 1962.

ps I am on my 4th cup.

Okay, Jim, we're gonna have to take that second cup o' coffee away from you. Slowly back away from the keyboard...do it now! ;)

You can't take away the 2nd cup,:p I am on my 4th, it is Keiths' work that has me all worked up. I am sending him 40lbs of Lime Green G-10 and it is exciting to think of a knife coming back with it on it.

PS:I toned down the other post.;)

Actually, it is something I have been giving to knife makers for the past 6 months, it has been free for just the shipping. Some are using it for table tops, fixtures and whatever, I asked Keith if he would use it for the scales and he agreed. But to anyone else that wants it, I think there will be enough for just a few more.:D

Just got word from KR that my sodbuster is finished and should be in my hands in a few days. Can't wait! You may think it looks like the one Blues got but there are a couple of differences. His is ivory colored micarta and mine is post-ban elephant ivory. The fittings on his are brass but that yellow looking metal on mine is 24 karat gold. ;):D

What steel is it?

Are you sure that's not sabertooth tiger ivory and gold from the nipple ring of Robucks avatar woman(his wife he says)? :)

Nice catch Rob! That's one I need to get on my short list.

Nice one, Rob, even if I do say so myself!

I think we may have to have 'em made with the RPBM logo! ;)

(And what better way to develop that special patina!?!)

Don't know where I am on list, but I have one coming too, no gold though, I can't afford that or the ivory. I am busted out, but saving for Blade.:)
James
