Sodbuster History.

Thanks for the thoughts on the storm guys. My first time going through that. Your first thought when it hits is your loved ones. My trusty sodbuster became overwhelmed and had to be replaced by Husqvarnas and John Deere backhoes eventually. I had about 15 volunteer firefighters in my yard yesterday helping with the cleanup. Gives you a good feeling about your community. Thanks to my online community.

Going through what you are is tough, I live in Indiana and was living here for the 1974 Outbreak. It missed my town, mostly, but leveled a town just a few miles away. Monticello lost 3 schools and basically it's entire downtown area to an F4 and several smaller tornadoes. People from all over the northern half of Indiana helped with both the clean up and in housing those who lost their homes. I took part in the search and rescue efforts and the sheer scale of destruction was overwhelming. Disasters seem to bring out the best in us, a shame we can't act like that during the good times as well.

My thoughts and best wishes go out to you and all in your community.

Now I find myself thinking more about getting a Jr as well. I just don't know which way to go,

I need to put some more thought into this...

(edits mine) More thought? No you don't. Buy'em all. You know you want to. Heck, WE want you to. And post pics. :D

thx - cpr

But I have one small warthog tusk left....lol...just about enough for a jr soddie after I take off an inch for another project.

OK---One of the knife companies HAS to do a Sodbuster up-grade!! I mean, if these knives were manufactured to a higher quality, the Sodbuster would be all-the-better!! The Sodbuster would be back in demand!! Gentlemen---comments, please.

Look around, there is quite a bit of demand for sodbusters. (That's why SMKW so often says "temporarily out of stock".)

I have no issues with my several sodbusters by a variety of factory and custom makers. I'm content to leave the sodbuster alone. (Though excellent workmanship and fit/finish is never frowned upon.)

upgrade how? my beloved case soddie jr is damn near perfect:D
Are ya thinking handle material?
as long as fit and finish are good like my case has then its almost perfect
at least to me, its a simple design doesnt leave as much room for embellishment like other slipjoints
so whatcha thinking?
cheers

I have a hunch that upgrading a soddie would be like fixing something that ain't broke.

Rant coming, hide the kids.

I'll never forgive Volkswagon for upgrading to a more modern car and ditching the old bug, or Colt firearms for upgrading the slim trim woodsman to a blocky angular heavier gun that missed the market it was made for. Like Ford and GM and Chrystler for upgrading from the reliable in line 6 cylinders to the "modern" V6 that blows head gaskets at 100,000 miles and warps the aluminum heads on a iron block. My dad always said aluminum was okay for beer cans, but didn't belong under the hood of a car.

Everytime I've seen something "upgraded", it usually spells the doom of the item. I hope the soddie stays a simple working slip joint with a yellow delrin handle. It's like messing with a good hot dog. It (the hot dog) ain't trying to be a steak, so love it for what it is. Whew, rant over.:)

Could not have said better myself.

Ivan---Which Brand Soddie do you own!
What I mean by up-grade, is better workmanship! You can buy a $30. Boker CLB knife that is flawless. The Sodbusters should be held up to those same standards. Don't change the Soddies but improve their quality.
