Sodbusters

Its a pattern I like fairly well, left to right, Rough Rider work knife liner locked strawberry bone,Bear &Sons yellow G10 lockback, GEC Bullnose burlap micarta, Case Sodbuster Jr. yellow delrin, Case SB Jr. Kentucky 1774-1974 bicentennial. To me the SB Jr. in yellow delrin is one of those "classic Cases" along with the full size in black delrin with the plow etch.

I had a knockoff sodbuster-type of knife as a kid and I loved that thing, warts and all. And it had plenty of warts, trust me. Mystery steel from china, terrible etched graphic on the flat of a poorly ground blade, the CHEAPEST plastic they could've possibly used for scales. But it definitely gave me a preference for single bladed folders. I just cant seem to find a use for 2 or more blades like a lot of people do.

Sodbuster Jr. from Case has become my favorite. I have one in orange for working around the farm and one in ocean blue for going out or to church. They are great slicers and heavy duty. The handles give you plenty to hold on to and are very comfy to hold.

Ive carried a GEC often. I gave it to my father-in-law and he is using the heck out of it.

I have been carrying a moki fish owl for last few months. Reminds me of a pointy sod buster.

When I first became interested in traditional pocket knives as a "hobby" about 6 years ago, I had no interest in single-bladed knives. I thought the whole point of pocket knives was to have a tool kit in the pocket (basically my only knife from age 9 to 63 was a scout pattern). But I won a Case Sodbuster Jr in a GAW at Blade Forums, and visited my daughter in Spain where almost all of the local knives had only 1 blade, and eventually started to appreciate 1-bladed folders. Turns out I liked the Sodbuster Jr a LOT once I gave it a chance.

Here's a couple of Case SBJrs I own. One is stainless with amber jigged bone handle, and the other has a carbon steel blade and chestnut jigged bone handle:

I have a couple of navaja de campaña made in Spain by JJ Martinez. One has a wood handle, one has a stag handle, and both have stainless steel blades. As the first pic indicates, this Spanish pattern is very similar to the Case Sod Buster Jr.

Sodbusters are one of my favorite patterns, I have a yellow delrin Case Jr in CV that I love, a red linen GEC Bullnose and a blue Case Sodbuster. Its a great pattern. Simple, tough, practical knives, much like the farmers who used them for generations before me.

Man, I need to get one of these bone handled knives. The Case chestnut (and amber) bone Sobusters are beautiful! For those that have them, how thin does it make the knife though? I like how thick and comfy the delrin scales are. Does anyone have issues with that bolsterless bone breaking/cracking/chipping?

I've had desires for one of those for some time and this thread wears down my resolve.
