SOG and Kershaw, I am disappointed...

I am currently trying to test out some different brands and get a quality knife from each that's legal in my area (3" blade, no autos, isn't this true for most states?). Currently have the Benchmade Mini Griptilian, Spydero Delica 4, Boker Trance, and just got a Cold Steel Mini AK-47 (First impressions: AWESOME).

I am gravely disappointed with Kershaw and SOG's offerings. Soooo many awesome blades I want but they need to go put an extra ONE EIGHTH INCH on the Skyline. The Leek just HAS to be auto. My only decent option is the Zing which seems kind of cheap...

Would buy the Aegis if it weren't assisted. SOG also came out with a Trident Mini, and get this, they made the blade length 3.15"...wtf were they thinking adding .15" to make it in illegal in many states?!?!??

Sorry for the rant, just confused as to why companies don't offer more blades that would be legal in many states.

Kershaw Half Ton immediately comes to mind. You could carry it easily.

Besides, if you have a stupid law like that on the books, I'd look somewhere besides Kershaw and SOG to show disappointment.

I really don't find the Half Ton aesthetically pleasing...

I'd just think that they would want to cater to unfortunate peoples' knife laws, they could sell more that way........

The Leek is not an auto.

I know it's assisted, are you 100% sure it would be legal in Wisconsin?

"Whoever manufactures, sells or offers to sell, transports,
purchases, possesses or goes armed with any knife having a
blade which opens by pressing a button, spring or other
device in the handle or by gravity or by a thrust or
movement is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor... "

Assisted knives are 50 state friendly. Including Wisconsin

Yep, the Leek is fine -- reread the state law that you posted. The Leek doesn't open via gravity or by pushing a button/device/whatever on the handle -- you have to push on the blade itself (the flipper) to activate the assist. That language is designed to make autos illegal while still permitting assisted opening knives (which, as noted above, are legal in all 50 states).

Also, you're overlooking the OD-1, a fantastic knife with a 2 15/16" blade. There are also other options with 3" blades, including the Needs Work and Oso Sweet.

maybe you could just buy what you liked, and grind down the tip to comply with the law. taking a tiny amount off isnt too hard.

if youre ever in a situation where a cop is questioning the length of your knife, its not likely he will whip out a ruler. your attitude and the situation, as well as the cop, will more determine the outcome.

I tend to carry 3"blades,not for legal reasons, but 'cause it is my preference. I too wish that There were more Kershaw offerings in this size. I also know that I am in the minority here. Sigh

Ya Kershaw is definitely stupid because they're not making knives just for you and your state.....

if your really worried about the spring assisted bits on the kershaw and SOG knives just pop them open and take out the torsion bar, youll know what it is, its the only spring like thing in the knife, plus itll be a good chance to clean it and have intimate knowledge of the design of the knife incase you ever become interested in more advanced mods

I have the Kershaw Clash, just a cheapy 30$ knife and it said it was 3 in. so i EDC'd it for along time...... UNTIL i measured it myself and and its 3 and 1\4 in. that is one knife from kershaw that i thought is under 3 in. but its not

The title of this thread is silly.

You should be disappointed in your state laws and not the companies you mentioned who DO indeed offer knives that are legal in your state.

I don't know why you're so Worried about 1/8 -1/4 of blade lenght as long as you're not doing something to actract atention Nobody including cops is going to

bother you. Carry what you want....I know cops don't walk around with a tape measure.
