Sog Field Pup or Mora 2000?

I recently almost purchased a Sog Field Pup I had in my hand at Cabela's for $40. I have also been planning to add a Mora 2000 to my upcoming order from Ragweed Forge. I should probably only buy one or the other. So, I thought you gents, and ladies, on this forum might have some input for me. I've never actually used either, but have read lots about both.

I"m looking for a knife that I can throw in my pack to have in an emergency, can't-make-it-back-to-camp-when-I-thought-I-could, situation, and also to use around camp occasionally when I need more blade than the LM Charge I carry normally when out camping.

Any thoughts on the durability of either one opposed to the other? The cost difference is minimal. Which one would you choose?

Thanks.

I like moras,I own several but no 2000,but I do own the field pup and can say it's agreat little knife handles really well to me,and takes a great edge.

Hey Guys....

I like my Field Pup,, but to be honest with you,, I've used my M2K alot more,, I know what it will do and trust it to do what I need to do..

So I say go with the M2K...

I don't think you could go far wrong with either but I am not a big fan of hollow grinds so would maybe go for the Mora !!!

I would go with the Mora 2000. Reasons being:

- Scandi grind and lack of recurve (which is on the Field Pup) make it much easier to sharpen in the field.
- Time-proven performance with woodworking
- Has no ricasso-choil-thing (unsharpened bit between handle and where blade begins), which makes for better whittling.
- As bad as the Mora stock sheath may look, nothing can be worse than the Field Pup stock sheath. Better yet, whichever knife you get, get Normark to make you a custom sheath.
- 12C27M tougher than AUS 8 (bending and not chipping under impact), though this depends very much on blade shape and where and how it is hit.
- Not made in Taiwan.

Let me also give you the advantages about Field Pup, which I do not consider to outweigh the Mora advantages:
- Possibly better handle & grip
- Has a lanyard hole in the handle
- Blade is slightly thicker at the spine than the Mora.
- Has a ribbed finger notch for better whittling control, and also to strike Firesteels
- Full tang, not rat-tail (though the Mora 2000 rat-tail is already very wide, about half-width of the handle.)

I have no experience with the Field Pup, but I definitely can vouch for the Mora 2000.

For the uses you mentioned, it certainly fits the bill. I've used it a lot doing work in my yard and around the house, and it's performed excellently.

Like znode said, spring for a sheath from Normark, it's part of the reason why I love my Mora so much.

My wife loves her FP, but I think sharpening the blade is PITA vs the grind on the mora. I would say go with the mora and get the kydex pants for it.

anybody ever done another handle on the mora 2K?

I've seen other Mora's rehandled, but not the M2K. I don't care much for the appearance of the M2K, but ergonomics and safety are very good and that's really all that counts with me as far as the handle is concerned. Still, each to their own when it comes to women, booze and knives.
