My wife uses hers when we go camping or hiking. She seems to like it alot, but I have to sharpen it whe it gets dull. I really don't like sharpening a recurve, but it cuts like crazy. Other than that it held up pretty good for fire and food prep.
I have one, I haven't used it a lot but I've carried it some. I agree about the recurve, but over all its a pretty good knife imo. I like the sheath, it has a good handle and the aus 8a has always sharpened up well to me.
I have one stashed in my truck as a beater knife in my BOB. I don't care for the hollow grind. The leather kydex sheath is crap. I cut mine in half putting the knife back in it. I contacted SOG and they sent me a new cordura sheath with a pouch on it.
It came shaving sharp out of the box and is a good slicer. I'd say it's good for medium duty use.
I have used the field pup for several years now as my main hunting knife. It is a really nice knife, but I have only two major issues with it. First is that if the knife is carelessly placed back in the sheath or rocked really hard while in the sheath it will cut through the side. And second is that it is a little long for field dressing a deer. I am one of those individuals that prefers smaller blades when working with large game. But on a side note it worked great on a moose and held its edge the entire time while being used. And cleaning a moose is allot of slicing. I am replacing my Sog with a small fixed blade this year either a RC-3 or a smaller Busse not sure yet. But besides being a little large for my taste it is a great knife and for how cheap you can get them now well worth owning one.
Used to have one years ago. I really liked it but a friend needed it more. Will get another one some day. I made a leather sheath for mine that worked great. It's a great slicer.
