SOG Hawk Question

Just got the SOG hawk, on the ground portion, there appears to be a coat of some type of lacquer, but it doesn't touch the edge. Should I remove this?

I'd leave it till it comes off in use or sharpening. It's stainless steel, but it'll still rust, so why not leave it to protect from moisture for now?
