SOG hawks

Well I finally did it. I pulled the trigger on my first tomahawk, and it's gonna be an Estwing. Might not make the best wood chopper but it's gonna be awesome regardless from what I've heard and seen.

But I need to ask. If tomahawks aren't designed with wood cutting in mind why are so many people on here using them for such?

There's lots of different types of hawks. The designs and intended purposes vary, like the SOG we discussed initially isn't a wood chopper. Most of the tactical hawks have a thicker edge for combat or breaching. Plenty of other hawk makers are doing more of a camp tool approach. Those will be better for wood processing, even though they are often lighter than a hatchet of the same length handle.
Plus, hawks are just fun, for chopping wood or otherwise.

In reference to cutting wood

Although not an Eastwing or SOG I've been using mine on the trail-RMJ Shrike S13, it's lighter than a hatchet, the RMJ sheath is better than most hatchet sheaths, It works great and like Foxx says-they are fun -plus I paid enough for it so I'd better use it!

That's a nice looking 'hawk you've got there. Unfortunately I can't afford one that nice. $400 is way out of my price range for a tomahawk just like it is for Daryl's Busse knife.

I did get a really good price on this one and unlike my many knives I figured If I get 3 or 4 Hawks they would come out at the same price.

Well this has been a mess of fun. I ordered the Estwing tomahawk and what do I get instead? The Estwing double bit axe. Now I've been see if I can get ahold of the seller and clear up this mess.
