SOG Kiku-hard to flip open

Hey all.

I just received a SOG Kiku from a BF seller and it is pretty sweet.

However, it requires quite a lot of force to flip open completely. Could anyone tell me what the procedure is to adjust it to open more easily without spraining my thumb? I've seen pivots adjusted and oiled. What should be done first? I believe there is a torx head on the pivot but I'd rather get some info before I dive in and potentially create a bigger problem.

Thanks!

There are a few options for a liner lock. First you can try artificial wear if the detent is very stiff, by just simply breaking past the detent a few dozen times (two handed is the easiest). You know have to open the blade a hair, just past the detent, for this to work. You can also try adjusting the pivot, which seems to be a T8 Torx. The one you can try with the least chance of damaging anything is simply putting a few drops of oil in on both sides of the blade.

What I would try, in order, is oiling, adjusting, then artifical wear if the detent is still way too strong. There are also other options for the more technically inclined, which include polishing the washers and adjusting the lock bar tension, but if those are iffy for you don't worry.

If you are really worried about messing it up, I am genuinely offering to check it out for you. If you are understandably weary of a stranger, we have plenty of people who would help out a new guy, or you can look to find a local knife nut.
