I have a sog fixed blade about 15 years old, bowie style, 7", with a blued blade and rubber sort of handle. since the blade is blued does that mean it is carbon steel?
the blade is marked on one side with sog specialty knives, edm. wa. and on the other seki japan
does anyone know what type steel this knife would have? more photos below

thanks mp510 for the tech support

so here are pictures of the sog knife, does this help identify the name of the knife and what steel is used?

thanks for the suggestions, I am new to the forum and cant figure out how to attach a photo to my comments, any ideas?

Upload them to an image hosting service, most are free. I often use www.imageshack.us and use the forum code.

Or, you can upgrade to a paid membership, and host here on blade forums.

Or email me the pictures, keep the size reasonable and I'll host and post 'em for for:)

it is a night tech with O1 steel, any comments on that type steel? Jesse at the factory was kind enough to track down the type steel for me, here is his reply

Sorry for the delay, no one here knew about this knife so I had to ask
around quite a bit and I finally received some answers. So the knife you
have is called a Nite Tech which at the time was the gun blued version
of the SEAL Knife but your knife has O1 Carbon Steel. Instead of 440A
which the SEAL knife featured throughout the 90's.

O-1
This is an oil hardening (i.e., quenched in oil when removed from the forge) steel very popular with forgers, as it has the reputation for being "forgiving". It is an excellent steel, that takes and holds an edge superbly, and is very tough. It rusts easily, however. Randall Knives uses O-1, so does Mad Dog.
