SOG Multitools

I only have a Leatherman Wave, and SOG power plier.

The power plier uses gears that allows u to use lesser force to manupliate the pliers.
BUT its bigger.

The wave is smaller and more compact.

quality wise, they are both good.

I prefer the wave cos its simply more compact :)

I like the design of the leatherman better but the only real difference is that the SOG has more force in the pliers and slightly differently constructed tools.

Try the SOG ParaTool for a great lightweight Heavyweight multitool. I own the LM XTI as well and use it for heavier duty utility but count on my PT for lighter duty stuff (non-work day to day, hiking/outdoors use, etc.). It the SAK on steroids without the weight. Give it a look see.

I have found fit and finish to be better on the Leatherman tools. The SOG S60 that I have has a few little points on the handle that are a little irritating. The pliers also have less play on Leatherman multi-tools.

That said the leverage system on the SOG is kind of nice, especially since you can open it so much quicker.

For reference I have a Leatherman Surge and XTi as well as the SOG S60.

I agree, Leatherman finishing is better than SOG....

I just picked up a charge TTi and this is the finest multi-tool I have ever owned. I was always a SOG fan. The pocket clip intrigued me, the S30V blade sealed the deal. I like being able to get to the blade without having to completely open the tool. That being said the SOG is much quicker to open.

I own (and carry) a SOG S62 (made in USA and PROUDLY stated so by SOG) and 3 Leathermans. I agree that the Leatherman's fit&Finish is better than the SOG, but only slightly so. The SOG is definitely heavier...this is a heavy tool. I don;t like the way Leatherman tools open, with the double-pivot at the pliars end. The SOG will open and close with a flick of the tool, and (I've tested this to my own satisfaction) the pliars exert more pressure with less hand force.

That said, the Leatherman tools are certainly high-end, high-class....they're the leader in multi-tools for a reason. I like my SOG though...it stays on my belt...right-rear.

SOG: bigger, heavier, smoother opening, cannot access tools from outside.

For daily carry, I prefer the Wave, primarily for the smaller size and outside-opening tools.

I love my powerlock best multi I have ever used. I have used every multi except a swisstool. SOG is the best hands down. I just traded the combo edge knife and saw for a straight blade and fully serrated sheeps foot. I plan on getting the newer tool with a assisted opening blade and gear covers. I think this will push the SOG multitool to the next level

my SOG is a tank, wonderful geared pliers, I like that you can change out the tools (got rid of the poor scissors, put in the web/belt cutter) I like the way it opens, tools lock, fit could be better, but it is a good tool, I'm glad I have it. Leatherman's are lighter (good for everyday) and have a nicer finish (like that really matters!) but I'm not crazy about the plastic parts (which is why their lighter!!), but I still like em, their smartly made, I'm glad I have both.

Wow u got the new wave.... is it supposed to be bigger than the older model?

What are the measurements on the SOG? esp the B62. I carry a spec-ops super-sheath. Flashlight in one pocket multi-tool in the other. I'm curious if it would fit.

I have always preferred SOG over LM. They may lack in fit and finish but I have always liked the pliers better. They are very easy to repair and customize yourself, plus you don't void the warranty if you do.

If you do not like the size and weight of the Powertool there is always the Power Pliers which is the comparable to the original LM but with the same pliers as the PowerTool

I actually find the body of the SOG's to be off a higher polish than those of the newer LM tools. The internal tools aren't as polished, but they're made to be replaced when they wear out/break. The lack of a one hand opening feature isn't a deal breaker for me. Most of the time I have a folder and a multi-tool. I am interested to see the new SOGs with the assisted opening blade though;)

I finally had the opportunity to handle some SOGs and compare them first hand to my LM Wave and Kick (which I don't use anymore). One thing I didn't like about the SOGs is that the blades had a one sided edge. They did have a better opening ability, very smooth. But, I like to be able to access my blade from the outside.

I have a Sog Powerlock, and while I will always like Leatherman, the Sog runs laps around it performance wise. I especially like the gears for the plier pivot- that's where my PST failed, and where any Leatherman will eventually fail.

I had a Leatherman Surge and didn't like it. I now own the SOG Powerlock s61 and from what I have seen so far it's much better.
