SOG Navy Seal 2000

The foot steps you hear are me walking across to see you...
I like my beef served medium rare, my wines Cabernet, Merlot or Valpolicella, and my cigars Cuban...;)
If I come anywhere near there, I have a few visits to make, and you are definitely on the list... and I won't come empty-handed!!!;) :D

I hear them, I hear them !!

The beef shall be medium rare....

the wines shall be Cabernet and Merlot and Zinfandel and vintage port....

the cigar bands shall say "Cohiba".....

the single malts shall say Lagavullin and Aberlour and Glenmorangie...

And MOST IMPORTANTLY: the welcome mat says and truly means WELCOME !!!

Cheers,

Carl

Don't miss Bonny Doone for Rhône varietals. Even with the departure of winemaker Andrew Rich, the wines are still a cut above.

Never been a Bonny Doon'er.... no particular reason, just never tried his wines.

Last Sunday I poured a big glass of '98 Meridian Cabernet, fired up a nice cigar, and took all the knives into the bright and sunny SoCal backyard for a photo shoot with my very-low-budget digital camera.

Pics were almost adequate, cigar was excellent, and by the second glass of Meridian all the bumps and headaches of the day had been smoothed over.

So I got out the big sharpening steel, fired up another cigar, and proceeded to sharpen all the knives..... and NOT cut myself in the process.

A fine couple of hours enjoyed.

Cheers,

Carl

I would never vocalize "Cohiba" because possession thereof is a federal offense in violation of the 40+ year trade embargo.

Telepathically speaking, maybe I did.... maybe I did !!

We must all possess telepathy... :D
I can buy them too, but the cost!!! That's why a friend got me some...:D ;) :p
Oooh trading fodder!!!:D

hehehe, can anyone join this party?

On the subject of AUS6 vs 440A, I have been reading all the popular knife mags for the last 3 years and everything I've come accross (articles/comparative tables) seems to suggest that these are very similar.

Ichor, you are a bit late on an issue that was debated some time ago. Sure, SOG maybe didn't take the best approach, but heck, nobody would place an ad in 2003 and advertise 440A as AUS6 or 440C as AUS8. Back then I guess most people were simple enough to realise that these were very similar and that was good enough for them. I have many knives with AUS6 or 440A blades and it's really hard to "feel" the difference. Is there a difference, yes. Is it anything to cry about or write home about, no.

My 2c. Oh well, the party sounds more exciting

Andre,

wow, you're a couple of miles away from the center of the known universe: Southern California !!

Well Said !! Makes sense to me.

Anyway, the Welcome mat around here means just that !!

Cheers,

Carl

Chances are (and I can feel the arguments coming... ) is that the variation in heat treat methods, and blade care are far bigger factors in the performance of these blades than the difference between the AUS6 and 440-A...
