SOG NW Ranger

I posted this over on the knife review threads but it seems more active here...

I was looking over on the SOG website and this knife really caught my eye? Any thoughts on it? Any feedback?

When I was 19 YO I bought on from the General Store (yes the store was called the General Store) and used it until I was 30. I ended up giving it to my cousin due to me having a addiction to steel, and I had 6-7 other camp knives at the time.

It was a good knife. I liked it. My tastes have changed since then, but the SOG NWR was a good all around knife IMO.

Awesome, thanks alot. Yeah it looks really useful yet practical. I really like the looks of it.

I'm not really fond of the handle or the steel (Aus 6) given the quoted cost of the knife. I do like the size and blade shape (minus serrations) and the leather sheath looks very nice.

They aren't out yet, but I would consider a RC-6 (Rat Cutlery) for $11 more which has a much better mircata handle, although it is a coated carbon blade.

If you want stainless steel and a similar style of handle, then I would highly reccommend a Fallkniven S1 which can be had at a slightly lower cost. The S1 is probably 3x the knife of the SOG.

I've owned a NWR for about 15 yrs. It's a good, basic camp and field knife that will always have a place in my knife drawer or on my belt. The 5" blade is just right; not too big or too small. The Kraton handle feels great in the hand and is easy to grip. If SOG ever makes one w/o the serrations I would buy another NWR. Highly recommended.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback guys. There are some on ebaY that are reasonably priced so i might look into getting one!
