SOG or Leatherman?

Starfish, am really glad we could give you the necessary food for thought to help.

I think you may have stumbled onto the same conclusion I did after awhile.......
A small pocket tool and a larger"Heavy Duty" Supertool for the really hard work.
I didn't mention it at first so as not to confuse the issue.

While I carry a Supertool most times now (doing lots of research lately) I find that
the Pulse and large SAK with saw blade gives me unparralled versitility by providing
a tool for pocket carry that is light , with a tough tool when I need it. The SAK (or Juice
if you choose) is always in my pocket doing the million things I don't need pliers for
with the Pulse (or Supertool) always at the ready.

You may find the same versitlity with your choices if you approch this from the same point.
Just remember that the one thing no multi tool on the market can do is...........turn a screw
and hold it at the same time. It takes TWO tools for that. That's why I carry two tools most of the
time now.

I'd bet that you are now well on your way to never again being "undertooled" again. One word of
warning here................Be prepared to have a minor lifestyle change when you get your tools.

You'll become so used to them being handy you won't want to ever be........... without them again!!!!!!

True story, mate.

P.S. Added a great link for you to poke around in concerning your question. These folk's
have by far the best info on ALL Leatherman stuff. Poke around and enjoy!!!!!!!

I recently got a good deal on a Leatherman Mini, and it came in the mail last week. Not much in the bells and whistles department, but I'm very impressed with the design that allows full sized pliers in such a small package. The handles basically fold twice, so the folded tool takes up a tiny amount of space. Good design IMO.

I'm a Facility Manager and "required" to dress up. I get away with the Wave because of the cases, as mentioned. Occasionally not having locking tools is a problem, but I think the thumb open blades more that make up for this. One problem with any of these, of course, is no insulation... Just a big shiney hunk of stainless conductor...;)

Well, here's the follow-up.

I bought a Pulse off eBay, and received it today. I'm quite impressed with it, essentially a PST/PST II with locking tools. Typical solid Leatherman construction!

First thing I did was to test the locking Phillips on that whiteboard which started this whole thread - no problems there! Looking at the other tools, I'm quite pleased with the selection as it contains most/all of the tools that I would need in a typical urban job, and probably a minor emergency situation as well.

My only complaint has to do with the tool clumping. It's not so much that the tools clump, but that the scissors are located right next to the blade. Have to be very careful when pulling out the scissors to not cut myself!

Thanks for all the advice!

Matthew

Glad you like your Pulse, Starfish.

The blade clumping will go away when it wears in. Just keep opening and closing the tool blades and it will loosen up.
