SOG Power Assist

Well its finally here. I got my PA today. My first impressions are good. The fit and finish are good. I am looking forward to putting it through its paces at work tomorrow. I am glad that it fits in my combo case because the case it comes with has alot to be desired. I guess SOG has gone the way of manufactures and cheaped out on the cases. I really like the size and shape of the knife. It was sharp out of the box, but I still touched it up on my sharpmaker, now it cuts like a razor. I really like the tip on the file, I am guessing it is a flat head screwdriver or a scraper. Either way I like the use of space. The strap cutter is a little smaller than I expected but still looks very effective. The tool lockup is definately better than my orignal powerlock. Overall I have a good feeling about this tool. My powerlock will find a home in my glovebox, so it won't be completely retired.

Sorry that I didn't see your post earlier. Thanks for posting your impressions! It's always nice to hear peoples opinions, especially the opinions of someone who depends on a multi-tool for their work.

I also really like the blade geometry. You are correct, the tip of the file is a flat driver (#6 size--at least according to PowerPlay/SOG).

I recently bought a PowerAssist, and LOVE it.
Popped the handle cover off, and have that side face my palm and the knife side (which is rounded) toward my fingers. Also added a pocket clip via a ClipDraw.

Fit and finish are great, blades are pretty tight, and with a little practice you can close both blades without switching hands or using two hands. I can flip it open and even open and close the tools with one hand.

Got mine today, but i expected it to be better, hope it gets looser with use.
I Damaged the wire cutters a bit on my first test, i cut a key chain ring.

You can loosen the hex bits if the tension is too tight. I'm assuming that you used the hard wire notch to cut the key chain ring--is that correct? Can you post a photo? Out of curiousity, I just tried cutting a dog tag split ring and it cut easily without damaging the hard wire cutter. I was thinking about trying to cut a nail (like I did with the Super Tool 300) but I may back down if you damaged the hard wire cutter with a key chain split ring.

I will post a photho of the fey chain ring and of the cutter during the weekend (not at home right now.
With use its getting looser, but the piano locks are too tight and when i open one of the tools the piano lock dont lock by themselves, i have to push them down... anyone with similar problem?? how can i get them looser, since they don't have hex screws??
Thanks

The piano locks on mine are pretty tight but they lock up by themselves. They have a strong spring but I think that should help them to lock by themselves. I'm not sure what to suggest but I'm not sure I understand the problem with the tightness. Maybe check the alignment of the tools with the "keys" of the "piano locks". And maybe oil the pivot pin.
