SOG Powerlock question? Your thoughts?

I bought a Powerlock in 04 or 05 (can't remember which), and it is still going strong. It's the most "tool-like" of my multitools. No complaints here. Sorry to hear that your experience isn't as good, though. I've had issues with a couple of Leatherman.

I've had a few flirtations with SOG's , and found that they aren't quite ready for prime time . Good concept , execution isn't all there !

My thoughts too. Too bad cause they have some nice details.

I actually have the complete opposite opinion of SOG. I think they are great multi-tools, second only to Victorinox for my use. I have a Paratool, Powerlock w/V-cutter (w/o gear covers) and a Powerlock 2.0 EOD. I'd rate them just below my Victorinox's Swisstool RS and Spirit but above my Leatherman's Wave (new), Skeletool and Pulse as well as my Gerber Compact Sport 400 and Diesel. I feel that SOG has the best pliers but Victorinox has the best secondary tools, ergonomics (Spirit) and quality especially fit & finish. I carry a separate one-hand-opening knife, Kershaw Skyline and others, so I actually like the "peanut butter knife" of the Spirit as the only knife blade. If I didn't carry a separate knife, the the Wave may get the nod

I haven't experienced the quality issue you are experiencing. All my SOG's are very high quality with the only issue I have with them being the tool clumping but that I guess is par for the course w/ SOG's. No burrs, sharp or rough edges on any of my SOG's. The handle covers don't bother me much either. It really doesn't slow me down as much as it annoys. But my use of a mutli-tool is far from time-sensitive or mission-critical so the few extra seconds it takes to get a tool out is no big deal to me.

Sorry you have problems with yours.
