I had one, liked it well enough, but traded it along eventually as my tastes changed. It is a pretty quality knife, in contrast to some of the newer SOGs, just not everyone's cup of tea.

DanielRob, what drew you to it, what are you liking most?

SOG has always had some beautiful fixed blades. Congrats on your new knife!

It took everything SOG had to top themselves? Apparently, they didn't have anything better than AUS-8 to throw into the mix—as usual.

In which battles was it proven?

In the famous marketing battles.

Not to discredit OP, but I have an old AUS6 SEAL 2000 and it's one of the worst knife designs I know of.

The whole "SEAL knife" thing is mostly just marketing. SEALs just wanted the Mission titanium knives (because Mad Dog could not produce as many knives as the contract stipulated) and they forced them to choose a non-titanium knife as well, so they went with the SOG.

The fact that one knife is "issue" for a unit just means they won the contract, not that it's widely used or even liked. Cool for a display in a museum ("these are all the issue SEAL knives throughout history") but not a lot more.

Also most top-tier units have access to a lot of high end stuff and brands even gift their products to them, so obviously most use either custom knives or better knives in general. Right now I believe the Cold Steel SRK is issued but I'm not sure.

I know for a fact in my country they market the knives they issue to SOF as "THE KNIVES ISSUED TO SOF" and "THE KNIVES SOF USE" when I know for a fact due to reasons that they're mediocre and they're all stashed in warehouses, soldiers using much nicer stuff.

Congratulations on the new knife. SOG is an amazing marketing company. Chris and team could sell ice to natives making igloos in the middle of winter for 30 to 40% over expected retail.

On one hand SOG's current marketing is pretty ridiculous. Well it probably gets young people excited and feeling very macho. Fine.
On the other hand many of these knives are not issued but widely carried privately. A military use knife doesn't need to be the best of the best as defined by knife fanatics, and with the exception of those who are personally interested in knives, low price, ease of maintenance and availability are more significant factors. SOGs have in fact ended up in battle as have Cold Steel, Kabars, Ontarios, and many other brands.

Congrats on the new knife! SOG is not as popular as other brands here but the fixed blades are good knives. As for proven in battle, I'll bet they are carried more than the exotic safe queen boutique brands. Enjoy!

Yeah, that's the SEAL pup, for the most part.

I have only known of one soldier that carried a SEAL 2000, and it was an old Seki made one.

What is the point of copy and pasting the marketing lingo into your post?

If you look at his profile he only has two more messages and one of them is for doing the same but with a Ka-Bar.

I think it's pretty obvious.

Still, this could be a good chance to have a nice SEAL 2000 thread
