I really like the look of these knives and i have heard good things but others say that the steel isnt great being AUS 6

Please tell me if they knives, especially the tigershark, are any good for heavy duty work, clearing brush etc many thanks

I'm not a big fan of 6A but these are solid combat knives. They are not however designed for clearing brush.

I had a Seal Pup and I must admit it was a poor performer in every task. I have heard the the tigershark is a great knife though.

No, they are not designed for that in mind, try the CU/7 and Combat Bowie from Becker for knives more along those uses.

Out of the dozen or so Seal 2000's I've handled in stores and at shows, not a single one had a sharp edge on it. The edge was just left ground too thick to be effective.

Actually after searching around it looks like there is a 440A and AUS-8 version as well as AUS-6.

I've had a Tigershark since the early 90s, and I still think it's a pretty fighter, but it is not a chopper/brush clearing knife.

If you want a really hard use camp/brush knife check out the Ranger Knives RD7.

On my opinion 2K is quite dengerous knife. I almost lost my pointing finger prying. It takes 7 stitches in emeggency room to fix it. This combat knife has very poor guard and in general handle is very uncomfortable in terms of shape and meterial. Most comfortable and very well designed big knife I know is Katz - I suggest you to have a look at Lion King or big one - AristoCat.

Also I realized reading this forum that this knife not nesseseraly is really used by Seals even it called Navy Seal 2000 and won that contest.

It is made in Japan, so most likely it is AUS-6.

Thanks, Vassili.

Some of the earlier Tigersharks were made from carbon steel, I think W1? I have one of these versions.

My Tigershark is one of the early carbon steel versions. I think it's made of the same carbon steel as the SOG Bowie: SK5?

SOG SEAL 2000

People, it's called marketing! Do you honestly think the US Navy SEALS, THE BEST FIGHTING FORCE IN THE WORLD, would use a knife made in Japan with AUS 6 steel!?!? They aren't stupid!!

Talk about aggeressive marketing techniques.

The SEALS can do better than that. As far as I know they carry Mad Dog ATAKs into combat.

The only offical issue knife for SEALs is the Mark 3 Navy knife, $50 Ontario POS, 440A blade. Anything else is chosen by the individual teams.

Its a good knife, its been tested and it works as intended. Can you find a better knife?

Don't call yourself a genius.

Of course, there are plenty better knives. Some more expensier, exotic etc. I'd say good knife for price range. And as far as the SEAL name... well it did won the trials.... where are the other knife manufacturers???

how about the Camillus Brute then?? again it seems great but i trust you guys more than a corporate website :D many thanks again for any advice
