SOG SEAL Commander Pricey but so so Pretty!

Has a very similar profile to the SOG SEAL knives from the late 90's to me. Biggest change I see is dropping the plastic handle for what appears to be a full tang with micarta scales. And of course the steel change.
 
Your Local SOG Dealer will have the SOG SEAL Commander on May 01, 2025, so save your pennies. They also have two new Kiku Matsuda models coming out that are nice looking IMO for only $249 & $310; save a few more pennies.
 
Oh, come on guys this new SOG Commander is a completely different knife from the Begg War Recondo War Ninja Junkie. Look SOG had them fill in the holes to make a completely new design. And the Begg knife was only $375 retail so it has to be a completely different and better knife.

Idk what everyone is hating on, it's tactical. You noobs. If you factor in how elite it is the price actually becomes attractive, I'll snag a couple. Thing is practically a mk19
 
The proud tang is milled flat to the scales on the SOG, and the trademark Begg holes are not drilled in the fuller. I have WR/TB Recondo, and it's a well built knife. In my opinion, it's what the Pillar should have been, it looks more like a SOG than the SOG. And White River makes both, so there's that. It ain't cheap, it ain't inexpensive, and it ain't 420HC. The kydex sheath is also quite decent, with multiple carry options. As the Seal Team Commander, it's still a good knife, White River does a really fine job with S35VN. If you haven't played with one, you probably should, before deciding it's crap.

If you have played with one, and you still think it's crap, that's cool. But, I buy all of my White River knives directly from John, the owner. He'd be disappointed to hear you dismiss this one without at least a test drive!

is more than double the price of the pillar better, though? im struggling with that......ill be glad to be wrong..but the price point seems nutty to me...
 
Even with CNC machines, there's a lot of detail to the Commander that the Pillar lacks, resulting in more machining and finishing time. Also, there's the coating and prep work to consider. Is the price too high? Depends on how you look at it. While I'm not a big Todd Begg fan, the Recondo/Commander presents to me as the same concept as the Al Mar Shiva, a modern midsize personal fighter. Whether you like the style or not, it's light, handy, has good edge geometry, and holds an edge well. The Shiva is a bit more of a gentleman's fighter, while the Begg/SOG is more practical/tactical, but they're the same length overall, and the game is the same. One could always have a leather sheath made.

I think the Al Mar Shiva (no longer made) is in another class from this commander model. Even though they are the same size there is little comparison in quality or design; the Shiva is way ahead. And at almost the same size (0.10" shorter) the Sog Pilar is not as over the top design and uses the same material and is certainly a more durable point. Not to mention the price difference between the Sog Pilar @ $230 msrp vs the SOG Seal Comander @ $430 msrp.

the big price gap between it and the pillar is what im struggling with on this one...... just seems way too high to me.
