Sog seal pup or fallkniven F1?

I'm undecided as to which one to go for for a general purpose survival knife... the fallkniven has the laminated blade, but I'm still not sure, If I get either should i get a better kydex sheath for them? I can buy the fallkniven as a blank blade and get some handles made and a custom sheath. I only own a few CRKT folders and a few swiss armys. Any input would be appreciated!

The Seal Pup is made from 440A/AUS-6 steel, .150 thickness and nearly an inch longer blade than the F1, I believe. Good corrosion resistance, and razor sharp, but lousy edge retention. You'll eat up a lot of steel if you'll need to sharpen it more than occaisionally.
The F1 has a VG-10 core and cutting edge, with 420J2 laminated exterior. Much better edge retention, and a thicker (approx. 3/16") blade as well. This could be a much better performing knife, unless you need a longer blade or more "tactical" design. In that case I would recommend the Seal Pup Elite. Its AUS-8 blade is much better than the standard Pup's, and it's thicker (about 3/16") as well.
Good luck.

That's a strange pair to compare IMO.

I'd go Fallkniven. Better steel, better construction, and better general use blade profile IMO. I've owned a couple of knives and handled more from Fallkniven and felt they offerred good value, all considered. Of course it will cost more.

The Falkniven is a far better knife than the SOG Seal Pup! I would get the Falkniven.

Fallkniven, there is no comparison.

Without a dought... Fallkniven. I have a Buddy that caries a Seal Pup when camping/hiking. I just don't care for 440a steel. Fallkniven is laminated, convex ground, and great fit and finish. Just my opinion.

Another vote for the Fallkniven, but I'm partial. I very much like Scandinavian knives. They're deceptively simple, and they perform. My Ranger Puukko M95 is one of my favorites.

As to sheath material... I like Kydex, but the Fallkniven leather sheath is very well done. I'd probably go with the leather.

I have one of the early (non-laminated) F1's and it's my go to fixed blade for camping. Would not trade it.

If you decide on the Seal Pup, get the Seal Pup Elite with the AUS-8 blade.

Not a F1 fan. Had one along with the S1 and several others. The handles are too slippery and none were good wood carving knives.

One of my favorite knives is the current Marbles Woodcraft with leather handle. Made my Camillus cutlery and uses the same steel as their Becker line. It doesn't get a lot of attention but it outcuts the F1 and carves wood very well.

Bark River makes some good cutters but I recommend only the models with guards. The guardless models push thru their sheaths.
