Sog tomcat 3.0

I think is one of SOG's better folders. It is heavy at around 6oz . has no pocket clip but it does have a lanrard hole. I think the arc lock knives with bolsters hold up better than the knives with out the bolsters.

Wish it had the clip. I've been thinking about getting one of these myself. I own the SOG Vulcan and it is one of my favorites. It is a smooth as silk flipper and I really like the VG-10 steel.

I think SOG's upper end knives are very well made.

needs to be modded to be a good edc, the lack of a pocket clip is crazy. Also the ruberized scales IMHO are not very good...here is one i recently modded to make it pocket friendly...and a bit classier:

I think you want the Tomcat, no matter what you hear from others. Three threads, and you're still on the Tomcat, which says to me that you're ready to buy it. I'm sure it will be fine as a user, and if it does develop play, you can always upgrade.

You're probably right...Iv'e just heard/experienced some bad things about blade play in the arc lock. And I don't want to spend $130 dollars on a knife with blade play.

Which knives did you have troubles with? If the one you purchase has any play you can always send it back.

Years ago, I was offered a chance to buy the original SOG Tomcat - I still kick myself for not going for it.

A very nice solidly built folder IMO.

Like the Mini Vulcan. The Tomcat has been one of SOGs premium folders for years. It is a beastly folder. Blade play? Send it back or take it back.

I've never had blade play on a SOG arc lock knife. Besides, just tighten the pivot if there is any.
I have the Tomcat 3.0, Vulcan tanto, Mini vulcan. Visionary II and Spec Elite II.
I've had horrible blade play on an A/O trident though.

This knife was really the only other folder available in the mid to late 80's, aside from the Buck 110, that I considered a quality knife. I still feel the same way. It's a great knife. It's pretty, good ergos, solid performer, great steel-especially for that time, and wicked looking. Grab it, you won't be disappointed. All the SOG models made by that particular Japanese maker are excellent. Enjoy it.
