SOG Tomcat

On all of the Tomcat II's I have seen/owned the pivot pin polished out to a different "color" than the bolsters and you can see the pin.

Probably because the bolsters are one type of steel and the pin is another type. That may not be the case on the older Tomcat, but it's fairly common on many production folders (some custom) with a pinned pivot.

Haven't seen one of the IIs in person, I'll have to take a close look at the SHOT Show next month. The original model I've got has the pin blended so well with the bolster I can barely see a partial outline if I look very close. If I didn't know better I'd say it didn't even have a pin.

You may want to you do a search on this forums, and read the long thread about it.

No need to wait until SHOT - here is a picture I found on the web that clearly shows the pivot pin. I blew it up a little in the upper RH corner just to show some more detail and added the arrow.

On a knife this size I think it should have a larger pivot pin. When I had mine it looked like the pivot was about 1/8" diameter which is the same size as most of my slip joints. Obviously there are a lot of these out there and you don't hear much about them breaking but it's just a preference.

Secondly, I wish it would come with an adjustable pivot all together. Having the ability to adjust the tension on the blade to my liking would be most excellent, especially one this size.

Other than that I like the knife!

Edited to add: My experience is with the Tomcat II

Actually the size of that pivot stays constant all the way through, unlike most pivots whch are barrel type screws with heads much larger than the pivot. also, alot of those barrel pivots are hollow, but remain strong. The sog pivot is solid and very strong. I have only heard of one failure in a tomcat and it wasn't at the pivot or the lock. :D
