SOG Trident folder. Great design, but...

I'm rather new to knives, so I've not seen many models "in the flesh"
Today I've played a bit with Trident at the local knife store. The blade shape is just asks to slash something. Square, yet grippy handle. I like the idea of that slot for string cutting. What's not good, there was noticeable bladeplay (and I do not care much for assisted opening, but it's just me). That awesome blade and great design could make a bigger value with a bit of tune-up. Maybe better steel, too. It's a pity, I love the blade shape so much!

seems a common observation in regards to SOG A.O folders, maybe someone can elaborate on this issue?.

yes, nothing flashy. I'm not familiar with SOG knives, you see. Just my first impression.
and you are not GALANT at all, SIR

Any chance of new improved Trident folder?
Haven't found a good review (but I'm not good with BF search)

I have a Trident folder and I really like it!
The handle big and confortable. Is FRN, some people don't like that, but I find it as strong as any FRN folder (like the Cold Steel Voyager), the blade is VERY sharp and the groove is nice, works well in rope and in plastic bags too :)

Is sharp, fast, light and fun, what else can you ask?

When new, it had lateral blade play, but is easy to fix: Tight the pivot till the asisted opening barely works. Put a drop of oil on the pivot area. Open and close it 20 or 30 times and the knife will slowly break and the AO will be fast again but with no play.
(Robby Robertson posted this trick a time ago and works great)

Just a half hour of gratifying knife-sturbation and the Trident will be fine! :p

Better fit'n'finish for one thing.
the knife I handled had vertical play as well

mine english far from perfect, too ))

I use my trident daily. It holds a good edge, opens without a flaw and is good looking to boot. I keep waiting for mine to develop play in the action, it has not yet done that. This action nearly gives you three hands in a tight spot. It can become priceless. I like the Trident folder design.
