Ok Ive got one specific question i would like to propose first and ill enjoy anecdotal responses on this one after the first one is reasonably answered id like to know about your thoughts on the knife.

1: have you heard about the seatbeltcutter/line cutter catching on pockets (in some way)and cutting them?
2: what do you think of the knife based on steel company etc?

ty in advanced

i own a SOG Trident and ive never had a problem with the cutter catching on my pocket and cutting it. the blade is actually set pretty far back in the groove, i dont think that it would be very easy for it to accidentally cut a pocket. i really like the knife as a user, ive enjoyed it since i bought it. the AUS 8 isnt the greatest steel available but it isnt bad either, balanced properties. if i some how broke this knife, id buy it again. its definately worth a shot IMO

I have had the belt cutter snag my pocket before as I tried to insert it. It was never even close to the cutting edge (these were standard jeans with standard hemmed jean pocket lips).

I really like my Trident. I am really bummed that it is out of commission as of right now. Nothing on SOG's part, mind you. I took it apart to do some cleaning, and twisted my star bit so that it no longer fit the screw. I'm hoping to get it fixed up this weekend:thumbup:

As for the knife itself, the blade steel is pretty good for a user. I have always had very good luck with SOG's AUS8A steel taking an edge and holding it reasonably well. It does have a little tiny bit of blade play, but I believe that is due to the fact that it is a linerless composite handle constructed knife. Not a big deal at all, and certainly doesn't affect the use. It was designed to be a very lightweight medium-large folder, and it succeeds in that area. Worth what i paid for it, for sure:thumbup:

Thanks guys looking for more comments on the knife and its steel now guys help me out :-D

A friend has one and broke the pocket clip off the first month he had it. He has emailed SOG three weeks ago and they have not respond. Don't know if I would by any SOG because of that.

care to answer the question about the steel with some actual useful information, thanx..

The Trident is a very good knife. I gave one to a LEO friend and he carries it to this day and loves it.

Thanks phil for relevance! Yeah one of the reasons i took serious interest (real consideration in buying) in this knife was because NTOA Approved and reviewed at a 4.5/5 and this is an excellent rescue knife as well so its a great gift for the EMTs out there

the trident is a pretty damn good knife. the blade is a very well designed bowie. the assisted opening is done very well, so its easy to use. i have never had a problem with the belt/string cutter catching on my pocket so far.

my only problem with this knife is that the one i received happen to have blade play. if you order one online, be sure to ask the dealer to make sure the one he is sending you has no play and does not budge at all when opened.

thats a shame cause i love the blade shape a lot.

have you guys tried the sog vulcan? the big one is much better than the mini inmop. its the same size as the trident, but its much heftier and stronger and no assisted opening. big sativ vg10 blade is thick and well designed.

The trident is a good knife, but for ~$65, it could've better. There was very slight blade play, like Phil said, the AO wasn't quite as fast as kershaw's, and after disassembling it, the lock release button/lever kept sliding around, although I can't remember if it did that before I disassembled it or not.

I'm getting the TF-11 which is the tanto version -- conintuing in line with the tanto assisted opener EDC, my current being the Kershaw Ken Onion Tactical Blur. So the AO action is slower than Kershaws'?How much slower we talking here, Nano or Miliseconds?

The AO is not so much slower that it affects performance very much, but it is noticeable when compared side by side with a kershaw. I'd say that its a fraction of a second slower, but keep in mind that the trident was in storage for months, so the spring might have weakened somewhat.

I believe I got it a year and a half ago. I've never used it much, just carried it a few months on and off and then sat in my drawer. I just got my first kershaw about a month ago, so it seems to be a rather unfair comparison, but I played with that kershaw a lot more than I did with the trident.
