SOG vs Benchmade

Holy resurrection Batman!

This is a rather old thread brought back to life.

I wonder if Kiri is still on the forums and what he or she finally bought?

Kiri, are you out there?

Allen.

Hi guys. I'm new here and very much a Knife newbie. Great info BTW. I just bought a SOG Flash II. I would have bought the new Ritter RSK Mk I frm Aeromedix in a heart beat, but you can't mail order knives to CO. Being a pilot, I am familiar with Aeromedix and have ordered stuff from there before. Anyway, I was relieved to see at least a few positives about the Flash II, especially the gentleman who is tyring to destory it and has failed. It seems to fit me well and I like the assisted opening system and ergonomics. A friend gave me a SOG Pent II a few years ago and it has served me well also, its just a bit big for everyday carry. Again, thanks for the great info here.

i have the SOG Flash II and i like it, the spring assisted opening is really cool but i dont like the fact that you need two hands to close the knife. I own a Benchmade folder with the axis lock and i have used my friends griptilian. Id say go with the benchmade becuase the axis lock allows you to close the knife with one hand and u can close it just as quickly as u can open it.

Thats funny, I have no problem opening and closing my flash II with one hand.

the only way i can close mine with one hand is if i push the back of the blade against my leg while pulling back the sliding button on the handle

I can have mine opened and closed in about 2-3 seconds with only one hand. Not as fast as my SOG night vision (arc lock) but it's still fast enough for me.

Why is everyone only comparing the flash with griptilian? BM has better models that totally blow the SOGs away. Like the 705, but there are others.

Well while I have never owned a Benchmade, I have owned a Flash II, and I have to give it a so-so rating. The SAT is nice, but it wears out after a while. The lock up is really pretty good, though there is alot of side to side play in my knife both open and closed (keep in mind mine was an EDC for a little over a year, and it got hard use) the edge was sharp out of the box, and wasn't too hard to maintain. I belive that most of the problems with this knife stemmed from the handle, which has gotten progressively sloppier over time, allowing the side to side play. The only other things worth noting are the washers are a little thin for my taste, and wore out after a while, as dis-assembly was a real pain with the one lone torx screw on the pocket clip, and the S.A.T. spring making dis-assembly outside of a controlled work-bench area almost impossible.

My 2 cents.
