SOG Vs. Kershaw

I have a skyline and the only trouble it has gave me is the blade centering got bad after a lot of use but it was fixed with lock tite and a torx bit. I did get some light spotting of rust but only because i was sleeping in a tent, and i was on the river and it was raining. so i would recommend it for a very good beater knife. I have handled a trident before and was surprised how stout it was. It did have some mild blade play but it was used and i could tell the last owner beat the crap out of it. if the aegis is as stout as the trident then it would also be a good option. the leek on the other hand is hindered by its wimpy tip but for normal uses it should be fine. the used to make reverse tanto leek and that mixed with the frame lock would make a strong knife. It pretty much comes down to personal preferences. Kershaw has always been good to me. but to be fair i have never owned an SOG.

I've never owned a SOG so I can' speak to that but I do own a Leek, was my second purchase after I got interested in good knives. For a smaller folder it is remarkably hardy, stood up to a lot of abuse, I still own it and it still makes it into my pocket over a heartier and more expensive knives.

I think everyone should have one. Looks good and 'nice' in an office but can take some abuse in a field to. I love fine points, I should mention. But mostly the Leek just 'feels' high quality sitting in your hand...get a frame lock , i should mention that.

Kershawguy'll set you up with an unbelievably good price to.

Go with Kershaw, you won't be sorry. Has consensus ever been so easy or complete here on BF?

There's a reason that the people who have chimed in haven't had much experience, if any, with the SOG. Meanwhile, just about everyone has a leek. :)

I think he knows to get a Kershaw now, but Im voting anyways... Get a Kershaw silly

for multi-tools and fixed blades of course. . .

Well, SOG does have one good folder I have seen, the Twitch line. Decent steel, good geometry, and excellent build. A bit pricey, but it is pretty solid.

Gotta agree with untamed on this one. Outstanding work on fixed blades from SOG in my opinion, but so-so at best on folders. My flash started out wonderfully, then took a turn for the worst. Pocket clip bent within the first week with NORMAL pocket carry, nothing abusive or stupid. Also, developed blade play quickly, and the assist mechanism gets slower and slower every time it opens.

Get the Kershaw.

The only folder that really got me excited from was the Aegis. I like the blade shape very much. In terms of consistency of build quality though, all the hit or miss issues of the weak handles and blade play stopped me from getting one.

if you like that take a look at the Ganzo G701(drop point) G702(tanto)

Thanks man, doesn't really float my boat though. That drop point was also "inspired" by Black Hawk's Hornet. I really like the broad chef-like blade on the Aegis though.

I would say kershaw over sog (I'm awfully original huh?) but i was very surprised by the quality of the trident i got a couple months ago. Very fast, Has a wee bit o' blade play but not as much as the flash and twitch that i owned. I really enjoy the knife.

I think the Kershaw Blur is in the same size range with the SOG. Leek is very slim and much smaller.

I would recommend the G10 handle Leek, the stainless steel version is too slippery.
