Sog was recently purchased by the same mob that bought Cold Steel. While the verdict is still out, these guys have little to zero knowledge about knives and are still flopping around like a fish on dry land.

whenever a well known brand is bought over, new owners
are convinced that the brand
alone is going to keep being
that proverbial goose which
lays the golden egg.
well, one can only hope
that they are well prepared
for the nature of the business.
because as merchandise,
knives have evolved to become
a lot more complex to predict customer appeal, than say selling some single flavored iconic brand of pop soda.
its a lot more like selling clothes
in an industry where there are far more personal considerations
which comes into play
before an eventual sale is made.
thus, like women buying new clothes
so it is a dizzying experience for a man going through countless knives for that perfect fit.
for manufacturers today
it is sinply not enough
to just keep churning out
old standards, stamp
brand logos and stack em high
on every shelf far and wide.
that formula might have worked
in a business environment
with zero conpetition.
the world of knives is evolving
and the consumer of today
has been spoilt rotten.
i m glad to see changes and upgrades with generic brands
but by george,
i do think its far easier to sell
a one model item.
