Does any have any expeirence with SOG's X-42 Autoclip?? I think it looks like a great combonation of blade steel(BG-42), handle material(zytel), the adjustable pocket clip, and SOG's quality.

No, I do not have any experiance with SOG's Autoclip. It looks to be a sound design.

One thing that sticks out it my mind a certain member who is incredibly tough on knives demonstrated that while SOG's BG42 is extremely hard, it can also be very brittle. Of course, this would be less noticeable in a folder than it would a fixed blade.

I have the small Autoclip and it is a great knife. Except for the plastic clip, this knife is easily in the same class as Spydercos Native or Calypso jr. The extreme tanto blade is not ultra versatile but it came sharp as heck and the point on the blade makes a good punch if you need one. If you want a smaller one hander with great steel and cheap, the X-42 is an almost impossible combination to beat.

Good post, Jeff.

The discussion of BG-42 makes me wonder about other knives using it, in addition to the Recondo which met it's Canadian Waterloo. When it is talked about in relationship with the Sebenza, an almost hushed tone is used, indicating this is a dream steel. We know from Ron, that SOG is aiming towards a Rockwell of 62 on the Recondo. Does anyone know what Rockwell the CR blades are aimed towards? For that matter, is the hardness target the same for the folder as the Recondo?
