Hey guys,
I've got one of my hidden tang Tamarack hunters up for grabs here today. The blade is 20CV heat treated to RC61-62 with LN cryo and double tempered. It's hand sanded to 600 grit. The guard is stainless steel and the spacers are black and natural micarta with a white G10 pinstripe. The handle material is some stellar stabilized chocolate Tasmanian Blackwood with a touch of sapwood from @Greenberg Woods. I'll be making a leather sheath for this one in the next day or two.

SPECS:
OAL:
10"
BLADE: 4.25" long, 1 3/8" wide. Compound Full flat and convex grind down to 0.012", hand sanded to 600 grit. The spine thickness is 0.13" and has been slightly rounded.

HANDLE: Stabilized Chocolate Tasmanian Blackwood, stainless steel guard, black micarta pin, black and natural micarta spacer and white G10 pinstripe.

This is absolutely gorgeous, Robert. Excellent work. Do you happen to have a picture of the sheath?
Thank you I appreciate it. This one just sold off of Instagram a moment ago. I haven’t made the sheath yet for this one. I do a pouch style sheath however. I’ll try to post a picture of an example a little later. If you’re interested in a similar one let me know. I have more Blackwood.

Nice looking knife but isn’t blackwood far too soft for a knife handle?
Thanks!
Tasmanian Blackwood could probably be used successfully without stabilization as it has a Janka hardness around 1160 according to wood-database.com. This is similar to Claro Walnut (Janka 1130), which has been used successfully for knife handles for a while (without stabilization).
Having said that, all the Tasmanian Blackwood, Koa, Walnut etc that I used is stabilized. This particular piece was purchased from @Greenberg Woods who has all his wood professionally stabilized by K&G.

Ah, good to know. They don’t normally stabilise it here, and so it wouldn’t normally be used for a tool or knife handle - mind you, plenty of Australian hardwoods are around to choose instead.

Australia certainly has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to great hardwoods! I love Ringed Gidgee as well to name one.
