Here's a strange one from around 1959, made in Seattle by the Continuous Casting Company. Handle and head are one piece of magnesium, with a hollow handle and a tool steel bit inserted for the chopping part. It's super lightweight, with the idea of having something very lightweight to carry and possibly store items in the handle, and once you need to chop with it adding wet sand or dirt into hollow handle to give some mass and power to the chop. Information seems to be scant, but leave it to BF to solve a riddle: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/a-floating-axe.1156508/, It does appear the original "plug" for bottom of the handle has been replaced at some point with a more modern bolt. Definitely an oddball. Condition is what you see. It is, what it is, but it is incredibly cool and an interesting take on engineering.
