Here is a knife I made within the last year, which was one of many attempts to find my perfect EDC design. I drew inspiration for this one from the Spyderco Sliverax to a large dgree. It has a leaf shaped blade of 1/8" AEB-L stainless steel, heat treated by Rob of Knifemaker.ca to 61 RC, and it is ground very thin, comparable to the knife it drew its inspiration from. It is light and well balanced, being ever so slightly handle heavy, so it feels like nothing in the hand during use.
I did carry and use it some, nothing more destructive than some cardboard cutting, which this thing absolutely excels at. And if you don't mind using a tip slicing technique, it does very well in the kitchen too (the negative blade angle does not allow the heel of the blade to contact the cutting board). True to AEB-L expectations, it sharpens very easily to a very fine edge, and though it loses its high keenness fairly quickly, it holds a good working edge due to its high edge stability and toughness, and even when dull to the touch, it still slices cardboard to bits! Not to mention it only takes a few passes on the stones to restore the fine shaving edge.
This one is all handmade, but it is a user. The sheath I made for it does leave some scratches in a couple of spots on the blade. I made myself a new EDC, so I am letting this one go for $OLD! This mean slicing EDC goes to the first "I'll take it", followed with prompt communication. Thanks for looking!
Steel: AEB-L, 61 GRC
Overall length: 7 3/4"
Blade and cutting edge length: 3 1/2"
Weight: 3.9 oz
Handle: Black linen micarta with black carbon fiber pins
Sheath: Kydex, set up with paracord for versatile OWB or IWB (not visible in the pic, as the loop is tucked into the cord on the other side of the sheath) belt carry
