I'm saving up for a knife, so it's time to sell two favorites to raise funds. Many, many photos and extensive descriptions follow!
Canal Street Eric's Jack - SOLD (was $160) - 440C stainless blade, stag covers, 3 3/8" closed, 2 1/2" clip point blade. This is the 2014 "alternate BladeForums knife" for the Porch. Only 100 of them were made, and unfortunately Canal Street Cutlery is no longer in business.
I bought this knife new. It's the only stag knife I've held onto because it's so perfect -- in my eyes, anyway. But truth be told it sits in my knife chest, and if I'm not using it I'd like to see it go to a fellow knife nut.
I've carried this one a few times, but never cut anything with it. Bolsters and backspring are still shiny, without even the handling marks most of my knives have. The blade etch is crisp and perfect. Factory edge. There is some scuffing from opening and closing the blade, which is apparent on the pile side tang, but that's the only blemish I can find. Pull is a 5 or 6; walk is good; talk is a bit soft, like the other Canal Street knives I've owned. There is no half-stop. A small amount of light is visible between backspring and liners, near the blade end, but only when I hold the knife up to the light. Backspring sits just a hair low when closed, and is flush when open. Blade slightly favors the pile side but does not rub.
I'm incredibly fussy about buying a stag-handled knife without holding it first, so I've tried to go overboard on the photos with this one (below). In my opinion, the stag covers don't match each other in width or character, but they each have a fabulous character all their own and the knife feels very comfortable in-hand. The mark side cover is somewhat wider than the pile side cover, and has a deep groove running down the middle (which feels great). Pile side is smooth, whereas the mark side is fairly gnarly.
Custom Hiroaki Ohta friction folder - $SOLD (was $155) - ATS 34 blade, ironwood covers, carbon fiber liners, and a micarta back strap, weighs just 1.3 oz, 4" closed not counting the lever, which adds 3/4"; 3" modified Wharncliffe blade.
This was my first custom, purchased new for $232. I have used it exactly once, to cut cheese at a picnic, but it was carried for about a month (carefully, with nothing scratchy in the same pocket). It is, for all intents and purposes, new; it's lived in my knife chest for about two years now. It's a beautiful knife, but I don't use it and that means it's time to move it on to someone else who will enjoy it.
Fit and finish are superb. Edge is razor sharp, just as it came from the maker. It opens and closes smoothly; the pivot is perfectly tuned. There is no kick, so it needs to be closed gently, but being a friction folder encourages that movement organically. It can be easily opened and closed with one hand. I have no hope of capturing the subtlety of the grain in the ironwood covers, but they're amazing. The ergonomics might look funny, but in-hand it feels marvelous. The inset lever is comfortable, and you get a very secure grip.
There are two minor imperfections in the knife, which I regard as part of its appeal: a tiny chip in the micarta backstrap where the tip rests when closed, and a tiny chip in the backstrap just past where the lever sits when open. Both were present when I bought the knife, and neither has any impact on its functionality; they're shown in the final two photos below. The blade favors the "pile" side, but does not rub.
This listing is for the knives only. I don't have the box for the jack, the lanyard for the Ohta, etc. Terms are after the photos.
(There's a speck of dust on the Ohta's handle near the bottom pin.)
(The "scratches" on the butt are dust. Sorry about that!)
PayPal only, "Goods and Services" only, continental US only. I'm covering USPS Priority Mail shipping and the PayPal fee. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
The first "I'll take it" in this thread followed by a PM gets dibs. (Questions, "I might be interested if," and the like aren't the same as claiming a knife.) If I haven't seen your PM within an hour, I'll assume you changed your mind and the knife will be available to others.
Buyer affirms they're legally permitted to own what they buy. No trades.
Thanks for looking!
