Up for sale, a customized, fine-tuned and highly unusual early Boker Burnley Kwaiken. As you may recall, the original version of the Kwaiken had no flipper tab, but was none-the-less mysteriously equipped with an IKBS ball bearing pivot; IOW, the pivot was all dressed up with nowhere to go. Several innovative aftermarket customizers (is that even a word?) found that if they re-profiled the steel frame to expose the upper corner of the blade tang, it transformed the knife from a somewhat awkward thumb-disk opener to a very slick covert IKBS flipper without the usual protruding flipper tab to disrupt the clean Japanese-inspired lines of the handle.
This one was customized to my specifications by A&D Custom Scales, AKA Alex Dietz, who reprofiled the frame and added Jade Green G10 scales over thin pink G10 liners. The backspacer is Moonglow and pink G10. In order to keep the pink from showing through the translucent Jade scales and dulling their color, glow-in-the-dark green paint was applied to their inner surfaces (as you can see in the pics, there were a few small voids in the paint caused by the adhesive used between the pink and green surfaces, which appear as subtle cloudy areas seen through the Jade G10). I added a removable glow-in-the-dark green lanyard with a clear/pink hardened lamp-glass bead. Note that the color of the green and pink G10 appears a little more subdued in person. The scales are nicely rounded and contoured and feel great in the hand.
The knife flips open smoothly and effortlessly, locks-up with absolutely no play, and floats closed on its bearings with the slightest shake. The blade is nicely centered and the edge was reprofiled by Alex on an Edgepro, so it's scary-sharp. He also removed the logos from the obverse side of the blade for a cleaner appearance and re-stonewashed the surface (the stonewash is a little different than the factory job, so there's a bit of contrast between the two finishes, but it's subtle).
I'm looking for $180.00 SOLD via standard PayPal (none of that PayPal F&F nonsense here, so you're fully protected). The price includes USPS Priority 2nd-day shipping, tracking, and full insurance in the ConUS only. The original OD green canvas Micarta scales and fitted foam box are included. No trades, please. If you have any questions, please PM me here or email at zos_kia@earthlink.net
I tried to capture the glow-in-the-dark quality here with a black light. Note that the Moonglow backspacer is much brighter than the somewhat subdued glow of the scales.
Thanks for looking!
