Barry Dawson “American Bowie” Pattern #96

This is a heavy-duty bowie knife dating from Barry Dawson’s days in Durango CO. My brother bought it directly from Barry between 1985 and ’89 and neither he nor I ever carried, sharpened, or cut with it. It is remarkable for having its original edge and for its nearly original condition. All marks on the blade are from its time in the sheath and all marks on the sheath are from storage while my brother and I owned it.

I have a modest Dawson collection from the 1980s and I can tell you they are incredibly hard-edged, durable, and sharp. I am selling this one only because it has been a “safe queen” and I think it would be better off in actual use or as part of someone else’s collection.

Stats:

Blade 8.25” (including ricasso and integral guard)
Handle 5.25” (from edge of scale to pommel)
Overall 13.50”
Width 1.5” (at widest point; 1.25” at ricasso)
Thickness .25” or ~6mm
Sheath 3mm thick leather
Weight 14.80oz (19.85oz in sheath) or 421g (562g in sheath)
Steel 440C
Beadblasted finish on blade, satin polish on tang edges; laminated/stabilized wood grip slabs; brass pins

$500 to your door, including insured shipping (PayPal goods and services), and I will entertain reasonable offers made privately.

Let me know if you have any question and thanks for looking.
