Hello everyone.
Happy new year (I think that until the end of this month we can still welcome the new year, do you agree?)
Some of you who have already spoken privately know that I am passionate about sanmai, but I always used the technique to achieve a black carbon on the egde/core and sides in 420 to protect it from oxidation.
This time I did it a little differently. I used 14c28n on the core and "glued" 1045 to the sides. I confess that I wanted a messier... more mixed transition line (in the same way as the 420 does with the 1070), but this very contrasted difference was also beautiful.
I had never welded the 14c28n in the forge and in the tests I did at different temperatures (small 1"x3" bars), the integrity of the bar was perfect. I tested until I refined the grain and hardness and got a very satisfactory result.

So that's it, I hope you like it:
