Up for sale is this very nice example of a Vietnam-era Western Bowie with its original leather sheath. Western first produced this design during WW II as an Army Air Corps Survival Bowie designated the Bx-54 Bushman (sometimes called a “V-44”), and started producing the Bowie for the commercial market starting in about 1965. During the Vietnam War, it was very popular with U.S. military personnel as a private purchase combat knife and most surviving examples reflect fairly extensive use.
This example is unused and in excellent original condition, with its original factory edge, bright finish and clear markings with few signs of use, wear or carry (see photos). One side of the blade has some light scratches and a hard-to-see bit of discoloration (see photos). It is marked on the other side of the ricasso “WESTERN / BOWIE / U.S.A.”, which dates this knife to 1965 –1967 (the “W49” designation did not appear until 1968). The leather sheath predates the “dangler” feature, is correct and original to the knife and is in excellent original condition, showing modest signs of use or carry and minor storage and handling wear (see photos).
The knife measures approximately 14-¾ inches in overall length and weighs a bit less than 1 lb., 4 oz. (slightly over 1 lb., 8 oz. in the sheath). The clip point blade measures about 9-½ inches long and 2-⅛ inches at its widest point. The S-shaped double guard is brass and the handle is hardwood (rosewood?) secured by three pins (see photos).
Price: Asking $175, reasonable offers are welcome.
Shipping: The price includes shipping via USPS Ground Advantage anywhere in the continental US.
Payment: Payment may be made via Zelle, CashApp, USPS money order or personal check as long as you're willing to wait for the check to clear before the item ships. Sorry,I no longer use PayPal.
First “I’ll take it” posted here has priority, please DM me with any questions or offers, thanks.
