Well done sir, let me know what you think about it when you get it , considering getting one.
***SORRY...THIS GOT A BIT OUT OF CONTROL.***
Got the Crux in today.
Based on my initial impressions, I like it. But it will require modifications if I am going to keep it.
It fits the Ferrum Forge / WE Knives / Massdrop bill:
* Titanium Frame Lock with Steel Lockbar Insert
* S35VN Stainless
* Solid Lockup
* Rides on Ball Bearings
* Titanium backspacer and pocket clip
* High Value <== Opinion
The action is nice and snappy. Closing isn't quite the same experience as some of my other FF/WE/MDs. It's not as "drop-shutty" as the other ones, although I haven't tried adjusting the pivot screw to fine tune it yet.
Blade shape is awesome. This drop point is my favorite EDC blade. It's right in my favorite size wheelhouse (3.25"-3.5"), has a useful grind, and lots of belly. With the choil, I can choke up and get the tip of my index right at the tip of the blade for tasks requiring fine control. I also appreciate that they've chamfered the spine. Adds both style and function.
Regarding the grip, overall I think it will be fine for any tasks that I would subject it to. For all grips, but the hammer grip, the back of the clip will create a hot spot with extended or hard use. That's really the case for all of FF/WE/MD knives, but there are clip options available (PopsCustomClips on Etsy).
Now to the problem. When closing the knife, the lockbar release is FIRM and the back edge of that lockbar digs into your thumb. While using my fingernail helps, it would have been nice if they had rounded or chamfered the back edge of the lockbar relief to make not painful. That being said, I knew this knife is known to give idle flippers sore thumbs. So, I'll likely round it off a bit whenever I get around to tearing it down. I'm going to EDC it for a while and see how it goes. But based on what my thumb's telling me now, that's likely the only way it'll stay in the collection.
You mentioned that you liked the blade design. It appears to be the exact same design as their smaller 3" liner lock gentleman folder, the "Gent". That knife is 1 of my favs. The Crux weighs in @ 4.3oz, compared to 2.4oz for the Gent. So, the Gent has the weight/blade side ratio advantage, but the Crux will definitely be a sturdier EDC option. Since you liked the blade, thought it might be another you might look at if you want something a bit smaller. 3" blade is the BOTTOM of my EDC size, but the choil on it makes is SO functional for me.
And, since you don't have any of the FF/WE/MD collabs, let me fanboy for 1 sec. IMO, FWIW, these knives are an excellent value for the materials and fit and finish.
Although on the small side for me, the Gent has been my go to for the blade design, which is why I have 3 (1 will be finding a new home soon).
On the larger end of my EDC spectrum, my go to is the Dao. It's a smaller frame and lightweight (3.4oz). And I love the blade. It may not be for some, but is very functional for me. It reminds me of the Insingo blade from Chris Reeve.
Anyway, sorry for being so long-winded.
Here's a few pics of my FF/WE/MD collection.
