Got this a while back, this is the updated Gerber Bear Grylls as the initial models were not full tang, this is full tang with a nice strike pommel and the grip is very secure feeling.
The sheath is compact and retains the knife well. In the design of the sheath they made a snap in pouch for the fire striker which also works well, it has only ever been used one time to prove to a fellow at work that you can get a solid spark from the squared off area on the spine of the blade. He was impressed
Price shipped in the USA is $50, Price drop to $45 shipped in the USA
payment by US Postal Money order or check if I know you, sorry but no paypal.
I have sharpened this to it's betterment and has a nice edge on there. I have tried chopping with it so the black coating does show some rub marks. There isn't the whistle that came with it...I think my wife hid or threw it away as I would carry that in my pocket and blow it at odd moments to wake up people around me, she found no humour in that...go figure!
In the sheath on the back are the sharpening carbide for emergency sharpening. I used sharpening stones to sharpen it up, but I think those would do in a pinch if needed. Also slid down inside the top of the sheath is a page by Bear Grylls for survival, I know a lot of people may be severely biased just for Bear's association, but this latest release is a solid hard working knife that should be given a chance.

To remove the fire starter, you pull the top away from the sheath first and then slide it out, you can see the nub that aids in retention

On the back of the sheath is the bits to sharpen the blade in emergencies

Squared off section of spine you can use to scrape fine bits of wood to create a small fire starting ball as well as using the fire striker against it's edge
