FIRST BATCH

Selling off my stash of giraffe bone scales -- all beautiful material. All dyed and stabilized and polished - most are earthtones, with some blues and a few other variations -- none of it will glow in the dark, I promise. Unless I note otherwise, all the pieces have a rounded face. For those wanting pieces thin enough to be easily worked for folders, I have some of those too. Prices and sizes after each picture. Payment by PayPal instant payment only please (fee included). Shipping is $4.95 by USPS Priority Mail flat rate box for however many you want -- US only.

Colors are reasonably accurate -- however, my scanner tends to lose the more subtle color variations you'll see in person and some colors will be a little oversaturated. In virtually every case, you'll find the scales to be more subtle in coloration in general, with lots more shades of colors in between. Also, fear my sophisticated image labeling skillz.

Sizes are Lengthx(width: small end - large end)x(thickness:small end - large end).

That stuff looks sweet. Does the dye penetrate all the way through? Would the coloring still show forth as richly if the bone was deeply ground/shaped and refinished?

The dyes do penetrate all the way thru (usually) -- however, to produce the "random" variations in color and pattern, the colors vary "randomly" in patterning and placement thru the thickness of the material - also, some colors are applied from the back, some from the front (colors applied from the front may not go all the way thru - or they may penetrate and mix into the "body" colors applied from the back, so you may "lose" the color if you go too deep). So if you grind off the top, you will get nice colors and patterns, but the color intensities/saturation and patterns will change -- also, you would lose the "crackling" effect at the surface if you grind from the top down too much (much like with surface mammoth ivory) -- if at all possible, thin scales from the bottom up. It really depends on the individual scales and how they were patterned - you can get a good idea by looking at the back and ends of the scales if they're going to be sensitive to working too much from the top.

Dropped prices down on all scales -- on account of I really need the money. Call it a Monday special.

Payment made, thank you.Are you going to be posting pics of the thinner pieces?

Thanks! Yes, I'm going to be posting them as I go along - most of the thinner ones will be 1/4"-5/16", but there will be several that are more like 1/8" thick. Note that I'm making a separate thread for each batch of 10 pairs of giraffe bone scales to keep down confusion, but you can treat them all as the same thread -- so if you want to add something to your order, let me know - your shipping is already covered after all.
