I designed this one also as a camp chopper, and commissioned a few blades done up in 1095 by a seller on eBay I had dealt with a few times before. The blade has a slightly wavy full height high hollow grind. Their heat treatment yielded a tough blade that holds an edge well and is easy to sharpen. Upon receiving this blank, I modded it into a large wharncliffe, and gave it an contoured OD green canvas micarta handle with brass pins and red vulcanized fiber liners, and a Kydex sheath, forced a mustard patina, and sharpened to approx. 10° per side, with a 20° per side microbevel.
The blade has one shallow pit on the right side which occurred from rust during prolonged storage, but this does not hinder its suitability for hard use. The pit is fully oxidized, so further rust should not be an issue, especially if the blade is oiled or stored in a dry location.
Overall length: 8.25"
Handle: 4"
Blade: 4.25"
Stock thickness: 4mm, 0.156"
Weight: 5.6 oz, 7.1 with sheath
This is a solid knife. At $OLD (including tracked shipping and insurance), this is a great user/beater knife. EMT only at this time. First "Ill take it" with prompt communication gets the knife. Thanks for looking!
