This is a 4.5 inch outdoor knife hand forged out of 52100 round bar stock by mastersmith Joe Calton, using the principles for heat treating this "honest" steel by Ed Fowler. Joe is a mastersmith with HEPK (High Endurance Performance Knife Association), chaired by Ed Fowler. The blade is differentially heat treated for added toughness.
A mastersmith with HEPK must: "... be able to produce a 5 inch blade capable of 200 cuts on 1/2 inch hemp rope and 4 – 90 degree bends without cracking at the edge. The tip of the blade should be able to be driven into mid steel with no damage or deformation. The edge should be able to be flexed the full length of the cutting edge on a steel rod without chipping."
So that's what you have here. The knife has not been used, but has storage and some minor sheath marks on the blade. The sheath is stiff, heavy-duty, hand tooled leather with a triple-riveted belt loop. This knife is designed and built for hard use. You can look up Joe's comments on 52100 on YouTube and why he uses round-bar stock and not flat stock steel to make his knives.
Price: $350 TYD Priority Mail in US. First unconditional "I'll take it" in this thread gets it, if followed by a prompt PayPal F&F (F&F because of the tax issue). You can look up Joe's outdoor knives like this on his website and see they sell for quite a bit more.
