Great question. I believe there is, since CRK marks the birthcard "black boomerang" instead of simply "boomerang" but I'm no damascus expert so I'm not sure what the difference actually is...

There is a difference between the two as far as looks go, if you go to Chad Nichols website he sells both types of Damascus. Black Boomerang appears to be lower layer & much more beautiful IMO. As far as I know this Damascus is the first time CRK has used it. Notice the difference between the appearance.

Interesting note. At the same time hard to do an equal assessment in comparison shots when one is in color accentuating more of the reflection off the whites while the black and white photo accentuates the blacks better. Can definitely see the difference in pattern though and the lower layers thus bringing out more of the darker too.
