I bought this and never actually used it to filter unsafe water. I tested it in my house when I bought it a few years back and then tried it again a few days ago to make sure it still functioned properly and it does. Sadly, I carried it many, many miles but never used it in the field, but it is supposed to be a bomb-proof, field-maintainable filter.
The pics show the bottom cap off but it actually screws into the bottom of the unit when stored.
I love MSR gear and imagine this will live up to the expectations that I have for the brand!
