Hey guys!
As of today is my birthday and as part of my yearly tradition, i always make a special knife for this date and for this year i finished this very special gyuto for it.
As most of you know, im not a really big fan of damascus but i LOVE forge finish damascus. I dont like the "extra fancy" stuff, i really prefer the random pattern with some of the forge finish in the flats.
The knife below is a 210mm gyuto forged to shape that has a very very special pattern and its geometry was designed to be a nice all-around knife.

The blade was done out of 1084 and 15n20 alloy.
Both very very tough steels that will definitely be a joy to use. This will allows a very thin edge without having the chipping problems than most of the carbon steels at such hardness.
Being forged to shape, this blade has a really cool difference between the layers of the alloy, in some parts the layers get very thin while others it stays thicker.

Its handle is quite a special combination with really vibrant colors. We got a african ebony bolster, yellow stabilized maple and then a really beautiful and highly figured emerald-green stabilized maple burl.
Im someone who really appreciate darker knives, if it was up to me, all my knives would have jet black handles. This being said, it is plenty of fun to adventure myself in these designs.

The handle has a very solid inner core of g10 that in terms of performance, is probably one of the best materials out there. It is made to keep all the wood and liners stable even under long term exposure to moisture and temperature changes.

When it comes to grind, this blade will sport a really smooth hollow grind done on my radius platen that is made to simulate a 49" water grinding wheel.
Near the edge, it has a really thin convex edge.
Basically a s-grind but without that sharp line transiction between the angles.
The edge is near zero as this alloy can holds such thin edge without necessarily chipping.
By being this thin, it will get sharpened really fast and easy, as well slicing food with much less pressure than a thicker one.
As per the picture below, the blade is an all-around workhorse and will deliver a lot of fun and joy during use.

As someone who does really appreciate Starry Night by Van Gogh, i tried to somehow forge the layers of the steel very thin and curvy near the tip.
I may be crazy, but i think that in some areas the pattern really reminded me the original painting.

Blade has 206 grams overall and in my opinion, this is the perfect weight for such design.
Its blade has a workhorse geometry and the handle is relatively heavy since g10 has a density near 1,8g/cm³ , this was carefully designed to place the balance point exactly near the heel/choil where your finger will lands to properly "pinch grip" the knife.
This is quite important feature to give you absolute control over the knife and make your experience in the kitchen flawless.
As mentioned in the thread name, im doing a situational price on this knife so i can buy more snakewood. I have recently called a supplier to get some big pieces of snakewood for a special project and he did me a nice offer that i cant refuse.
EDIT: Sold pending funds. Please reach me by email (fvazcustomknives@gmail.com) if you have interest in ordering one similar.
Im from Brazil and i dont take paypal. I can provide tons of references and if you enjoy this knife, feel free to contact me so you can know my work better.
