For sale is an original U.S.Model 1917-1918 trench knife manufactured in 1917 by Landers, Frary & Clark, one of four companies contracted by the U.S. government to produce this model of trench knife for issue to its overseas forces in World War I. The knife is approximately 14-3/16 inches in overall length, with a 9-inch triangular blued blade that comes to a fine point. The handle is walnut with finger grooves and has a steel D-shaped knuckle bow featuring seven pyramid-shaped knobs along the center of its outer surface, a distinctive feature of the trench knives made by L.F.&C.

The knife is in good to very good condition, with an intact handle, most of its original finish and a clear marking of “U.S./L.F.&C./1917” on the guard (see photos). There is some scabbard wear to the finish on the blade and the knuckle bow has a slight dent or bend (see photos). I have no idea how it got there but like to speculate that it resulted from a long-ago, Popeye-style punch by one of our doughboys.

I don't have a sheath for this knife, although reproductions are available. Ships in a temporary cardboard sheath. Price is $345 or best reasonable offer and includes shipping in the continental United States via USPS Ground Advantage. I no longer use PayPal but accept Zelle, USPS money order or personal check as long as you're willing to wait for the check to clear before the item ships.

Although ratings are no longer available, I have (had?) 18 positive reports and no negatives. I also have 100% positive feedback on eBay under the same name. First “I’ll take it” posted here has priority, please PM me with any questions or offers, thanks.
