Sold Out Dates for Spyderco Mules

A number of us have been working on a collaborative project over at the Spyderco forum, regarding sold-out dates for mules. While we're not claiming absolute accuracy (finding the absolute last day a mule is available is tricky!), this list does represent some significant research on the part of several Spyderco fans, most notably forumite CLOK. Would you have guessed the fastest sellout for a mule was S45VN @ 11 minutes, and the slowest was the 10V equivalent, Micro-Melt A11, @ 4.2 years? Me either!!

This list has not been rigorously cross-checked against BF posts, so if you find better data and are so inclined, please post up. Enjoy!

FootNote 1: MT04 - “This was the weird one with the heat treat issues. Kristi posted on 10/1/2009 that they found the heat treat issues and they were testing the remaining stock and removing them for sale on the website a this time. Kristi posted on 11/30/2009 that they knew of the heat treatment issues and a good batch (not seconds) was to be posted on the website in a window between 11/30/2009 - 12/14/2009 unless sold out before 12/14. She then went on to say a 2nd batch of HT would be performed and those would be released 4-8 weeks later, but cannot find posts on that later occurring.”--CLOK

FootNote 2: The “>” (greater than) ranges are due to no definitive sold-out date being found. The termination date used in these cases is the last mention of “still available.”

FootNote 3: MT12 – “Originally released on 9/12/2011. Restriction was lifted on 9/19/2011. The recall due to heat treatment was announced on 9/26/2011 and they suspended sales. They were re-released on 1/20/2012 and users were still ordering them on 2/2/2012. I could not find a post about when it went out of stock.” --CLOK

FootNote 4: MT18 – “Released on 2/5/2014. They sold out by that night. Spyderco then released another batch on 2/17 which looks like went back out of stock on 2/20.” –CLOK

FN5: Removed, after finding a date on BF.

FootNote 6: MT26 -- Released 8/7/17. Very few conversations about it. Spyderco put more on the website around 3/9/2019. Then a user was able to pick one up at SFO on 9/3/2021. This is probably the slowest seller and longest gap of sales if you don’t include the ZDP-189 seconds sold late 2022. -- CLOK

FootNote 7: MT35 - Sold out in 80 minutes, likely would have sold out sooner but for server crashes that slowed sales.

Thanks for putting this list together! I started buying Spyderco Mules in 2016. In a short period I purchased PD#1,20CV, B70P, A11,And RWL 34. Mad at myself for not getting Maxamet and LC200N!

Interesting data.

I've got all of the Mules (6) that I want now: M390, S110V, LC200N, ZMAX, S45VN & Magnacut.

Bought all of them, except for the Magnacut, on the 2ndary market.

I was one of those who bought a Magnacut direct from Spyderco on the release date but, as I recall, it took longer than 80 mins to get my order in or maybe it just seemed that way. LOL! 🤷‍♂️

If you can find a later "still available" date, please let me know and I'll update...thanks!

It was always strange that PMA11 and PD#1 sat for as long as they did when the demand for k390 and cru-wear are so high. I'm very thankful to have such a great way to taste different steel

I don't know where that price for MT01P came from, but it is wrong. They were priced at $39.95 each when they were released. That low price was what set off the buying frenzy that ensued.
