REX 121 Hunter. I hand ground this blade as something of a prototype for a CAD design I have been working on. I intended it for me to take elk hunting but that trip didn’t pan out, so now it’s up for sale.

It has a partial hidden tang, a hidden pin, and E-120HP epoxy for the the G10 handles.

.145” REX 121 blade stock, 4” cutting edge, 9 1/8” overall length, 5.95 oz.
Heat treat: 1875 austinitize temp, -175 cold treatment, 400 temper, 71 hrc.
Ground to about .005” prior to sharpening.

Edge established with a 200 grit CBN wheel cooled with machining coolant, then a 1000 grit CBN wheel, also with coolant, then stropped with CBN compound.

Sheath is .08 black kydex with good retention. Tek-lok included.

You can see a seam of light colored epoxy near the front of the handle if you look close.

Well done. I had a couple of questions if you don’t mind?
> Curious about the blade coating—DLC, ceracote or …?
> Do you happen to have the final thickness at the top of the edge bevel by chance?
> Grind appears to be full-height flat?
Thx

The coating is Gunkote Nano SOCOM black. It is a spray on, bake to cure coating. I sand blasted the blade for surface prep. The coating will last about the same as any of the paint finishes like cerakote, etc. I have found it to be better at resisting initial marring than epoxy finishes like alumahyde. It will not last like a dlc finish.

The thickness behind the edge is around .015, plus or minus a few thousandths depending on where and how I measure it.

The grind is full flat.
