This is a brandy new stone, not used and with the other stones I have, I don't see myself using this higher grit stone.

Price shipped in the USA is $old
payment by Zelle, US postal money order or check if I know you.

I have not used such a high grit stone, is this pretty much a polishing stone? I think the finest I currently have is a DMT extra fine which is supposed to be about 9 micron. Would it be too much of a jump of 9 micron to the 3.68 of the shapton, in your opinion?

I usually jump to the strop after the DMT extra fine, but have been curious about these very, very fine stones.

I think this is in the realm of a polishing stone, my narrow set of stones I have the Shapton 2k and 8k which puts a mirror polished edge, but this is the large bench stone and right now my set of those stones go from 220, 500, 1k and I got the 4k just thinking that the progression would make sense. But after sharpening several knives I really haven't even had to go above the 500 grit to get the edge I am liking. So my 1k has only a few knives touch it just to see what it does, but I've not even wet this 4k stone. I paid just over $73 including tax and shipping so with me shipping it to someone, I'll not come close to breaking even ;) but I think it's better than letting it just sit unused.

Those people that sharpen razors may want this in their progression of sharpening, or those that just want a hair whittling edge, or use their knives for wood carving where polished edge bevels are really a plus.

How thick is the stone? 1" thickness works well in my stone stand, 1/2" kind of stinks (scythe stones).

I looked up specs and it says it's 0.75", which would be fine. It just looks thin in the pictures.

And lastly, doesn't the abrasive run down the sides too, or all the way to the edge? I feel like my DMT stones aren't the best at the edges, like the diamond came out of the base material at the edges on one or two of them.

These are the splash and go type of stones that do not wear very fast, so they keep their flatness better than say water stones. Each grit size has a glass backing, here's a couple of photos of this stone
